Bio

Aslan earned his B.Sc.+M.Sc. equivalent in Applied Mathematics from Bauman Moscow State Technical University in Russia. He completed a two-year internship at Siemens, during which he focused on modeling phase-change-material-based latent heat storage systems, a topic related to his Master's thesis. Aslan completed his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering and Mathematical and Statistical Sciences at the University of Alberta in Canada. His doctoral and postdoctoral research focused on transient numerical modeling of proton-exchange-membrane fuel cells, with a strong emphasis on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy and two-phase flow dynamics. He also made significant contributions to developing OpenFCST, the largest open-source software for fuel-cell modeling. At Berkeley Lab, Aslan continues to explore mathematical modeling of electrochemical systems while broadening his expertise to encompass other technologies beyond fuel cells.
