ECG Researchers Present at Electrochemical Society Meeting

May 21, 2018

Researchers from the Energy Conversion Group at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory gave talks at the 233rd meeting of the Electrochemical Society (ECS), which was held May 13-17 in Seattle. The semiannual ECS meeting gathers experts in solid state and electrochemical science.

In one of the presentations, the Berkeley Lab scientists discussed the potential for improving performance in redox flow batteries, a promising technology for grid-scale energy storage. The scientists—Douglas Kushner, Michael Tucker, Ahmet Kusoglu and Adam Weber—are working on developing a systematic approach to probing the effective size-exclusion properties of polymeric membranes in these batteries.

Tucker also presented his work on a prototype portable generator using metal-supported solid oxide fuel cells; Kusoglu talked about ionomer thin films for PEM fuel cells. Weber delivered a talk about performance issues with low Pt-loaded fuel cell electrodes and participated in or led several other sessions.
