Vi Rapp Honored

Vi Rapp, a researcher in the Energy Conversion Group, was recently honored by Berkeley Lab for her professional accomplishments and contributions in the area of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math outreach.

At an Oscars-style celebration at Berkeley Lab on June 9, 2018, a big crowd of family, friends, and colleagues cheered as each awardee took center stage. Sixteen women were recognized for their professional accomplishments and contributions to STEM outreach.

“The best science is done when you have diverse voices,” said Mike Witherell, director of Berkeley Lab, at the ceremony.

Rapp is a research scientist in the Environmental Technologies Area at Berkeley Lab. She leads and directs research for the biomass cookstoves group and the combustion laboratory. Her research focuses on developing carbon neutral, near zero emission combustion technologies for residential heat and power generation. These technologies include advanced biomass cookstoves for the developing world, and efficient, low emissions burner technologies for combustion appliances. Rapp received her Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of California, Berkeley with a focus on advanced internal combustion engines and alternative fuels.
